Microfinance Does Work

Incofin, a Belgian Investment Manager focused on impact investing in the microfinance sector, will test this statement in a debate involving experts from both home and abroad. We warmly invite you to join us for an evening session of thoughtful discussion and active participation on Tuesday, 11 February 2014 at 7PM, at the Kaaitheater in Brussels.

The evening starts with two instructive client surveys focused on microfinance clients in Cambodia:

  • Tanmay Chetan, the Chairman of the Cambodian microfinance institution AMK, and co-founder and Managing Partner of Agora Microfinance will present AMK’s ‘Change Study Report 2012’ shading some lights on the evolution of clients’ poverty profile through their access to credit over time

  • Dina Pons, East Asia Regional Director & Social Performance Manager at Incofin, will present a research report financed by Incofin, BlueOrchard Finance, and Oikocredit, analysing the causes of over-indebtedness among micro-entrepreneurs in Cambodia

After that, speakers (Marc Labie, Professor at University of Mons and the Research Center CERMi - Emmanuelle Javoy, former Managing Director of Planet Rating - Kurt Moors, programme coordinator BRS) and the public will debate the topic of microfinance as an instrument of change in the worldwide struggle against poverty, moderated by the MO* editor-in-chief Gie Goris. What are the challenges and dangers? How can social and financial returns be reconciled? In the face of criticism how can microfinance retain its supporters?
